Notes on Conference Kamus Basa Sunda Pertama dari Banten: Sejarah Kamus Basa Sunda Abad ke-19

Abstract

This conference note discusses the first Sunda dictionary from Banten and the historical development of Sunda language dictionaries in the 19th century. The seminar, led by Prof. Mikihiro Moriyama, examined the unique position of Banten in the study and compilation of the Sunda language during the colonial era. The dictionary compilation by Dutch scholars and missionaries aimed to understand the local languages for administrative purposes, revealing the significant cultural exchange between the Dutch and indigenous communities. The discussion also highlights the evolution of the Sunda language and its scripts, as well as the role of prominent figures in preserving and documenting the language.
